ScaleStop, Whole House Filtration and Water Softeners
White marks on shower screens, scale around taps and buildup in water-heating equipment can make scale control a priority. AquaCo offers different approaches because households do not all want the same result. Some want broad Whole House Filtration with scale control included; others specifically want to reduce water hardness.
What causes hard-water scale?
Hardness describes dissolved calcium and magnesium in water. Scale can form as minerals deposit, particularly when water is heated or evaporates. The Water Corporation’s hardness guidance explains the local context. Conditions vary by supply, so a suburb name or a mark on a tap alone is not a full water analysis.
ScaleStop: scale control within your filtration system
In AquaCo’s current Premium PFAS Whole House configuration, ScaleStop is integrated into the sediment cartridge. This combines the first stage’s sediment role with a scale-control function. The subsequent carbon and Disruptor stages serve their separate filtration roles.
This can be a convenient choice when your main priorities are whole-home water quality, chlorine taste and odour, and the water used for showering, with scale control as a useful additional feature. It avoids the space and salt-regeneration requirements of a separate traditional softener. Suitability still depends on the water and installation.
How does that differ from a water softener?
| Question | Whole House Filtration with ScaleStop | Ion-exchange water softener |
|---|---|---|
| Main purpose | Filtration with an integrated approach to reducing scale buildup | Reduction of hardness minerals through ion exchange |
| Hardness measurement | Do not expect the same hardness reduction as softening | Designed to reduce measured hardness when correctly sized and operated |
| Routine attention | Replace the appropriate cartridges and maintain the system | Salt replenishment, regeneration and servicing according to the unit |
| Other filtration needs | Selected cartridges provide their stated contaminant-reduction functions | Additional filtration may still be needed for concerns such as chlorine or drinking-water contaminants |
Scale control and softening are useful for different priorities. If minimising hardness itself is essential, tell us that at the outset. If you primarily want Whole House Filtration with scale control included, compare the Premium PFAS system and its installation options.
What if I also want fluoride reduction?
Do not select a Whole House scale-control system on the assumption that it also removes fluoride. A suitable Reverse Osmosis drinking-water system is a separate option for that requirement. AquaCo can help assess a Whole House and RO combination, with the exact model’s performance and installation needs checked.
Before choosing your system
- Describe where scale appears and how quickly it returns after cleaning.
- Provide your suburb, water source and any recent hardness test.
- Tell us how many bathrooms are used at once.
- Confirm space, access and the proposed installation point.
- Compare the selected variant’s price and installation inclusions, plus ongoing servicing.
